WILD FLOWERS GALORE

We stayed overnight in Esperance and the next day our tour bus headed west along the south coast to Albany for the next night. On the way we stopped a few times and each time we were surrounded by an abundance of wildflowers.
Blue Haven Beach
The coastline was very scenic. The sea is an amazing colour here.

We stopped at Munglinup for morning tea but I was out snapping the flowers.

Acacia Tree or Wattle --our national flower.

Eucalyptus Tree and seed pods.
Then we drove on further through lovely scenery with much more vegetation than on the previous inland stretch. We came to the town of Ravensthorpe.

A typical country home.
After lunch we walked through the town to the senior citizens hall where there was a flower show.
We passed this magnificent Bottle Brush Tree (Callistemon) on the way.

Ravensthorpe flower show.

  1. I am absolutely in love with the Bottle Brush tree. I have seen shots of the flowers on other blogs but never the whole tree. It is gorgeous.

As winter quickly approaches for us it is a pleasure to see all the beautiful wildflowers from your travels.

  2. Diane, I've just been browsing through my archives and came across close-up's of the little yellow balls (blossoms?) on our Acacia Karoo (sweet thorn)back home in SA. Your wattle looks so much like this. Does it also smell sweet? I love the flower arrangements at the flower show. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day and even better week! Jo

  3. Brilliant flower shots Diane.
Wouldn't the lorikeets just love those Bottle Bush trees - the squarking would be horrific.

  8. Hi Diane! Sorry for the absence, but these last two months have been rather nasty! My mother (90) was in hospital for more than three weeks and the post-surgery was hard! My father (94) seemed to be an orphan while my mother was out and felt into some kind of depression... The economy is a disaster and the media only bring bad news... The € Euro is rescued every day, only to be known that it needs to be rescued again and again next morning... What else? Well, maybe «Midnight in Paris»... The problem is that the Gil there is a different one... ;)

    Fabulous shots!!

Blogtrotter Two wanders currently around pre-historical Corsica, where it seems all this will be leading to... ;) Enjoy and have a wonderful week ahead!

  18. How did you do those small shots within the bigger shot? Some new-fangled software you have found?

That was a boon having the Seniors' with a flower show. Right up your alley-way.

I have not been to Esperance, but have been to Albany a couple of times, and Augusta right on the point. And through the tall timber towns inland like Manhimum and Kojonup. My ex-inlaws lived in Perth.

  21. The color of the water at Blue Haven Beach is gorgeous! I love the decorative veranda on the country house. The wattle and bottlebrush are both so pretty. Our family lived in South America for several years, and these grew there too. It is interesting to see so many similar plants and trees between the two continents.

  22. Breath taking! Here, of course, Acacias and Eucalypts, imported to SA for firewood and dune control have now become rampant, causing loss of our indigenous species and so, they are on the list of plants that may not be cultivated and large areas have had to be eradicated at great expense by our Working for Water programme. We have four Australian Bottle Brushes growing in our garden. The birds and bees love them!
